DCS Energy provides photovoltaic solar energy systems for commercial, public institutional and corporate locations. DCS Energy has a SPPA (Solar Power Purchase Agreement) in Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts (more states to be added in 2009) for public and corporate clients. In CT the SPPA can be for public and commercial buildings in CL & P and UI utility areas. In MA the SPPA is only available for public buildings in certain utility districts while the SPPA purchase plan is for RI and MA commercial clients (for qualified areas check requirements on the residential solar page).
The SPPA allows a public building or commercial property to receive a no cost solar PV system including equipment and installation on their property. The SPPA client agrees to purchase the clean power from the solar PV system at a rate that is 2 cents less than theie current utility for the 15 year term. The SPPA client then receives clean energy at a guaranteed fixed price for 15 years (saving a tremendous amount of money in their electric costs). All maintenance issues are handled by DCS Energy for the 15 year term. The SPPA Purchase program for MA and RI commercial buildings or sites requires a deposit and the commercial client receives the benefit of a federal tax credit and accelerated depreciation to bring the ROI to five years. These are some of the SPPA requirements:
- PV System needs to be between 10kW and 100kW (MA for 25 kW or less)
- Energy Audit must have been performed in the last three years and any conservation requirement that has a five year payback or less must be completed
- Carry insurance covering the PV system for the life of the SPPA on their grounds from fire, flood, natural accident, electric accident and vandals.
- Immediately pay monthly PV power invoice within 24 hours of receipt via credit card or check (fee for late payment)
- Pay for the permit fees for the PV system
- Southern exposure with no shading or obstruction interference for the PV array area which averages 1320 sq. ft. per 10 kW.
- If the PV array is to be installed on the roof. The roof must be in excelelent condition and have at least an estimated life of 20 years. A ground mounted system must be protected by fencing (provided by client).
DCS Energy is limtied in the number of SPPA projects that it can provide in any year. If interested in the SPPA or SPPA purchase program, please contact DCS Energy immediately.
